Find Duplicate Files Privacy Policy

This page explains how the app handles photos, videos, and files you choose.

Labels: Local-first / No tracking / No analytics

Data Collection

The app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share user data.

Local Processing

  • Duplicate detection is performed locally.
  • File hashing is computed locally.
  • Photos, videos, file paths, scan results, and cleanup reports are not uploaded.
  • The app does not use analytics or tracking.

Local Storage

  • The app stores scan history snapshots and cleanup reports locally.
  • These user-facing files are saved to a visible folder you choose.
  • These files may contain file paths, file metadata, scan statistics, duplicate-group results, and cleanup results.

File Access

The app only accesses folders you explicitly choose or drag in. Delete and move actions run only after your confirmation.

The app may also remember previously authorized folders and report destinations locally so it can reopen them later. These permission bookmarks stay on your device only and are not uploaded or shared.

In Photo Library mode, after permission is granted, the app reads assets via PhotoKit for duplicate and similarity analysis. Cleanup actions in this mode are read-only in-app, and move/trash actions are disabled.

iCloud Photos

When scanning an iCloud Photo Library, the system may download thumbnails or original assets to this Mac for analysis. This is system-level PhotoKit behavior on macOS. The app itself does not upload data to iCloud or any other service.

Purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple StoreKit. The app does not store card details or payment credentials.

Settings and Internal Cache

The app stores preferences, recent report paths, scan history indexes, and folder access bookmarks locally on your device so it can resume your workflow later.

Internal cache, hash-cache, or app-operation database files may be stored in Application Support and are not uploaded.

Logs and Diagnostic Exports

Logs and diagnostics remain local by default.

Diagnostic bundles are created only when you explicitly choose to export them, and exported files may include redacted settings, local scan statistics, and redacted logs.
